Michael Gilbert Ronstadt: Biography

MICHAEL G. RONSTADT:

Michael G. Ronstadt has been offering his music to audiences on cello, guitar and voice for seventeen years and is conversant with a wide range of styles.  He has performed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico with artists like David Bromberg, Linda Ronstadt, and Muriel Anderson.  In addition to solo performances, Michael currently tours with his group Ronstadt Generations and regularly appears with Craig Bickhardt, Lisa Biales, and David Trotta.  His playing can be found on over 30 albums from the last 10 years, including Trotta & Ronstadt's 3.30.11 (2011), Ronstadt Generation’s Lulo (2010), Lost In Holland’s The Last Great Loss (2009), Amber Norgaard’s last three albums from 2006-2010, and Santa Cruz River Band’s Volume I (2004) and II (2005).  Michael Ronstadt’s solo albums, Bridging The Gap (2010), Cotton Dreams (2008) and Motionless Swirls (2006), “…show him to be a performer with an amazing command of the typical and exotic sounds of the cello, a true virtuoso and a man of instinctive musicality”(Dan Buckley, Tucson Citizen, 2008).  Stephanie Ledgin, author of Discovering Folk Music, writes that Michael is "...an exceptional musician-composer, Ronstadt creates a masterful canvas with genre-blending explorations on cello and guitar in complement to thought-provoking lyrics"(2011).  Michael received his Master of Music in Cello Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) in June 2008, and his Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from the University of Arizona in May 2006.  He has studied under esteemed pedagogues Yehuda Hanani, Nancy Green and Dr. Gordon Epperson.

Ronstadt, younger brother of Linda Ronstadt, continues the family tradition with his two sons, Michael G. and Petie. These three voices -- all multi-instrumentalists and solo artists in their own right -- bring to life a repertoire that reaches back to the end of the 19th century while continually looking ahead into the 21st, with a rich innovation of original material alongside traditional Southwestern and Mexican songs. Each comes with the highest credentials, having appeared around the world in performance and on recordings with such diverse artists as Linda Ronstadt, Los Lobos, the Dixie Hummingbirds, Muriel Anderson, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and countless others.

Releasing their debut collaboration, "3.30.11," recorded live in Jersey City, David Trotta and Michael G. Ronstadt bring an exciting sound to today's music scene.  Performing together for almost two years, Trotta and Ronstadt were recently featured artists at the New Jersey premier of The Endless Summer (Remastered) and also chosen as artists for the first Annual Escape 2 New York music festival on Long Island.  Radio stations like WNTI (Hackettstown, NJ) and Z88.9FM (Pemberton, NJ) have been playing their music regularly.  Both artists have a rich family tradition of music and tour extensively for audiences throughout the United States.  David Trotta was born and raised in Point Pleasant, New Jersey and is now settled in the New York City Metropolitan area.  He continues the musical tradition his father left him and has toured the east coast for the last three years.  Trotta studied voice at Rowan University and takes that solid foundation into his expert songwriting.  Michael G. Ronstadt is a Tucson, Arizona born cellist and songwriter now living in the greater Philadelphia area.  He has performed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico with artists like David Bromberg, Linda Ronstadt, and Muriel Anderson.  In addition to collaboration, Michael currently tours internationally with his family group, Ronstadt Generations.  Sought after as a touring and recording artist with his name on over 40 recordings, Michael is also a first-rate composer in his own right with a command of the cello that ranges from pristine classical technique to throw-down funk.  His music can be found on three solo albums released in 2006, 2008, and 2010, in addition to albums by Trotta & Ronstadt (2011) and Lost In Holland (2009).

The Suono Duo, made up of Janet Marquardt on violin and Michael G. Ronstadt on cello, is a versatile classical duo that has performed across the United States, including sharing the stage with Linda Ronstadt on “Heart Like A Wheel” at the Wilmington Opera House in 2006.  Consisting of a repertoire that includes Bartok, Kodaly, Handel, Bach, traditional fiddle music, and more, audiences will certainly enjoy. 

Janet Marquardt is active as a violinist and teacher in the greater Philadelphia region.  As a member of the Dave Stahl Sacred Orchestra, she has performed throughout southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland.  Janet has been a section violinist for a number of orchestras including the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, Pottstown Symphony Orchestra, and Tucson Symphony Orchestra. Janet is a private string teacher in Pottstown, PA and has a studio of approximately 45 students.  She completed her Master of Music degree in violin performance at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona.  Previously in 2004, she received a Bachelor of Music in violin performance from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Read about Michael G.
